North American Sea Glass Festival
Pin It
In October I had the opportunity to attend the North American Sea Glass Festival in Lewes, DE. The festival featured many talented artists from sea glass jewelry to sculpture. For a sea glass lover and collector, it was my heaven on earth! 2008 was the first year that the festival was held on the east coast. Next year's festival will be held in Erie, PA on October 17 and 18, 2009. I am hoping to make my way to the Lake Erie coast next year as well for another wonderful sea glass gathering!
Every year the North American Sea Glass Association holds a "Shard of the Year" Contest. Collectors from all over the world bring their prized pieces of glass hoping to a chance at the $1,000 prize.
Shard of the Year Contest Table
The festival also offers many workshops about the history of sea glass, origins and where to find it. I attended a few of the lectures, one with Pure Sea Glass author Richard LaMotte. He even signed my copy of the book! The book is a great resource for any sea glass collector.
Private Collection from Washington State
Handcrafted Sea Glass Jewelry from Relish
